The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of child and adolescent development and how this informs curriculum design, assessment and learner progression. They will lead on developing and sharing effective practice, provide high-quality professional learning aligned with Curriculum for Wales, and support schools through curriculum reform. Excellent presentation skills and the ability to work collaboratively with schools and partners are essential.

Expectations
You will:
  • be a qualified teacher and hold a full and valid driving licence;
  • have recent experience of leading on the development of pedagogy, particularly in mathematics and numeracy within Foundation Learning;
  • have a sound understanding of child development and its application to Foundation Learning and progression across the 3-16 continuum;
  • demonstrate a proven track record of improving mathematics/numeracy provision and learner outcomes, especially in early years and primary phases;
  • illustrate a commitment to the philosophy of Curriculum for Wales, underpinned by a dynamic, creative and innovative approach to teaching and learning in Foundation Learning;
  • be prepared to work flexibly within the team to achieve shared objectives;
  • be enthusiastic, motivated, well-organised and able to work confidently using your own initiative with headteachers, teachers and governors (where necessary);
  • support schools to deliver their statutory duties and play a key role in maintaining and improving the quality of mathematics and numeracy provision and outcomes for all pupils, with a strong focus on Foundation Learning;
  • be responsible for preparing and delivering high-quality, inspiring professional learning both centrally and in schools, tailored to Foundation Learning pedagogy;
  • undertake regular visits to schools and settings to advise and consult on actions for improvement, share best practice and summarise visits in report form;
  • provide support and advice on effective mathematics and numeracy teaching strategies and approaches to evaluate the quality of teaching and learning, particularly in Foundation Learning;
  • identify and share effective mathematics and numeracy practice within and across networks;
  • either directly, or by commissioned support (as appropriate), contribute to resolving specific issues;
  • be well supported by a team of experienced advisers.
