This is a unique opportunity to join a school that is at an exciting point in its history. In September 2022, Ysgol Gymraeg Gwynllyw opened its doors as an all-age school, and our primary department welcomed its first pupils.

Here at Gwynllyw, we have an enthusiastic team of staff, dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of learning and teaching and learner achievement.

Ysgol Gyfun Gwynllyw opened its doors as the first Welsh-medium secondary school in the old county of Gwent in 1988 and, since then, it's been great to see Welsh education thriving in this area. The school is on the outskirts of the historic town of Pontypool, and is within a convenient distance to larger towns, Cardiff (about half an hour) and Newport (about a quarter of an hour). It's central to the M4 and M5 motorways and the Heads of the Valleys highway leading to Merthyr, Abergavenny and Hereford. The school is also working closely with other Welsh-medium secondary schools to develop our new curriculum and as a result offers a range of professional development opportunities.

We prioritise the professional development of our staff as a key focus. Here at Gwynllyw, we have an enthusiastic team of staff, who work well together to fulfil their commitment to maintaining the highest standards of learning and teaching and learner achievement. Promoting a high level of staff wellbeing is a key priority for the school. This year, we are piloting an 'amser aur' (golden time) scheme for school staff, in order to allow staff a period of time to work away from the school premises once every three weeks.
