"Learn, have fun, and reach for the stars."

Deputy Headteacher

Hendrefoilan primary is a happy, inclusive, and forward-thinking school at the heart of its community. Situated in Killay, to the west of Swansea, the school benefits from an extensive site with woodland, fields, adventure playgrounds, netball courts, and football pitches. It also supports a range of childcare provision, including pre-school care, nursery wrap-around, an after-school club, and a holiday club.

Following a promotion to headship, we are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to join our creative and committed team as deputy headteacher. The pupils, staff, and governing body are seeking to appoint an outstanding teacher and leader who is passionate, enthusiastic, and exceptionally motivated to contribute to and enhance our supportive, knowledgeable, and innovative school community.

The post requires:
  • The necessary skills to be an acting headteacher, gained from first-hand management experience of a busy school.
  • An excellent classroom practitioner from whom others can learn, and who is willing to take a leading role in the development of teaching and learning across the school.
  • An analyst, with an eye for detail, who can summarise trends in pupil data and track individual pupil progress.
  • A high level of digital competency including the ability to create/edit web pages, use google drives, excel spreadsheets, teams and a hwb sharepoint.
  • The ability to focus on strategy and vision and play a lead role in the strategic direction of the school.
  • The ability to draft evaluative reports and make presentations which demonstrate impact.
  • The ability to use relational practice and positive approaches to managing behaviour across the school.
  • Strength of character and a sense of humour that motivates pupils and staff.
  • Resilience and a tireless ambition to improve the school using energy and enthusiasm.
  • The commitment to establish and maintain a variety of rich extra-curricular activities for pupils, parents, staff, and the community.
  • The patience, kindness, and empathy to help others including pupils, staff, governors, parents, and the local community.
  • The determination and strength of character to challenge underperformance and maintain a strong professional opinion if it leads to improvements for others.
  • Decisiveness under pressure and the courage to take risks.
  • An in depth understanding of approaches to self-evaluation and school improvement.
  • A leader with the belief in curriculum transformation in line with the curriculum for Wales, who will seek out collaboration with others, and lead curriculum design within the Swansea Bay partnership.
  • A leader who will work closely with the headteacher and who has the aspiration to be a headteacher.

We would encourage you to undertake a visit to our school, so that you can see for yourself what the school has to offer. A tour of the school for prospective applicants is arranged for Thursday 12 March at 16:00 and Tuesday 17 March at 16:00. Please telephone 07850450277 or email [email protected] to book a visit.
