Job Description
Purpose:
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced teacher to lead on our vocational
curriculum. Ysgol Friars is changing and we want to ensure that our learning offer
continues to meet the interests of all our pupils. As part of the vocational learning
role, you will be expected to lead on and teach curriculum areas including Business
Studies, Travel and Tourism and Welsh Baccalaureate. We are looking for a staff
member who will be confident to lead and assist others as they teach vocational
subjects.
We are aiming to expand our vocational options for pupils at Key Stage 4 and 5 and
the successful post holder will need to be flexible to responding to the interests of
young people attending Ysgol Friars.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Fulfill the professional responsibilities of a teacher, as set out in the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions document
• Meet the expectations set out in the Teachers' Standards
• Take specific responsibility and accountability for the day-to-day management and organisation of their responsibility area of Vocational
Learning
• Ensure that schemes of learning for all responsible areas are high quality and meet the specifications of WJEC Qualifications for Wales at GCSE and A level
• Assist in the smooth running of the school at all times
• To support staff teaching vocational courses across the school
• To develop the vocational options at Ysgol Friars with high aspirations for outcomes

Duties and responsibilities
Teaching
• Plan and teach well-structured lessons to assigned classes, following the school's plans, curriculum and schemes of work
• Assess, monitor, record and report on the learning needs, progress and achievements of assigned pupils, making accurate and productive use of assessment
• Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of pupils
• Set high expectations that inspire, motivate and challenge pupils
• Promote good progress and outcomes by pupils
• Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge
• Participate in arrangements for preparing pupils for external tests
• To be an excellent practitioner and lead effective practice in areas of responsibility including business studies, travel and tourism and other
vocational courses
Teaching and learning responsibility
• Use professional skills and judgements to provide strategic and practical leadership as a vocational leader
• Lead, manage and develop your own leadership area, and provide guidance for other teachers, including training, support and advice to improve school practices
• Improve standards within your own leadership area across the school, with demonstrable changes for pupils outside of their own classroom or group of pupils
• Provide strategic subject and leadership, showing up-to-date knowledge of developments within the area
• Develop curriculum as required, highlighting areas where teaching can be developed and attainment improved, and evaluating and planning
improvements based on data and wider quality assurance activities
Whole-school organisation, strategy and development
• Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the school's policies, practices and procedures, so as to support the school's
values and vision
• Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school
