Principal Responsibilities:

School Ethos
  • Uphold, and put into practice, the agreed vision and aims of the school;
  • Promote pupils' well-being at all times;

  • Ensure a high standard of physical and emotional care for all pupils;
  • Enhance pupils' moral, spiritual, social and cultural development in class and during school assemblies;
  • Promote good behaviour, mutual respect and school rules;
  • Aim to instil self-discipline in all pupils; expect good behaviour and courtesy from all pupils;
  • Implement all whole-school policies and procedures;
  • Promote Welsh language development and pupils' understanding of Wales, its heritage and culture;
  • Report on the welfare, social and personal needs of individual pupils to the Headteacher.
Planning
  • Prepare long-term, medium-term and short-term curriculum plans, keeping abreast of the requirements of the New Welsh Curriculum, the Digital Competency Framework (DCF) and Welsh Assembly initiatives/frameworks/plans in education;
  • Produce weekly lesson plans and evaluate pupil progress;
  • Identify the needs of pupils with Additional Learning Needs (SEN, MAT and EAL) within weekly lesson plans and differentiate tasks/activities accordingly. Liaise regularly with the ALNCO and take account of each pupil's IDP.
Teaching and Classroom Organisation
  • Plan, prepare and deliver lessons which meet the needs of all pupils within the class;
  • Create a positive, orderly and stimulating classroom environment where pupils are challenged and expected to give of their best;
  • Have high expectations of all children and communicate this to them;
  • Familiarise pupils with classroom routines and responsibilities;
  • Mark work regularly and provide pupils with constructive feedback, orally and in writing, as appropriate;
  • Ensure that children's work is displayed to a high standard;
  • Make effective use of classroom resources and keep the school and classrooms tidy and organised;
  • Safeguard children's health and safety when they are in class, when they are on the school premises and during out-of-school activities;
  • Keep daily records of pupil attendance.
