About the Role
We are seeking to appoint a Deputy Headteacher to start in September 2026 at Ysgol Llan-y-pwll. This will be an exciting opportunity for a strategic, dynamic, skilled and inspirational leader to join our successful team in a brand new role. Ysgol Llan-y-pwll is a proud and welcoming community that is passionate about every individual's ability to reach their potential and ambition, and to develop into happy, confident, independent and responsible members of society. Applicants should be fluent in Welsh and demonstrate a strong commitment to the Welsh language and its culture.

The successful individual will be responsible for teaching one of the school's classes (the year group will be discussed with the successful applicant). As Deputy Headteacher, they will also support the Headteacher in leading a dedicated and enthusiastic team, providing professional leadership to ensure the school continues on its journey and delivers high-quality education for all pupils. Part of the role will also include responsibilities as the Additional Learning Needs Coordinator (ALNCo). This will be reevaluated as the school increases in numbers.

The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping, driving and delivering whole-school improvement, with a particular focus on:

High-quality teaching and learning
Strong leadership and accountability
Staff development and wellbeing
Safeguarding, inclusion and pupil outcomes
Promoting and strengthening the Welsh language across school life

The Deputy Headteacher will undertake delegated whole-school leadership responsibilities and will act as Headteacher in their absence, as required by the Governing Body. We wish to appoint an exceptional individual who can work closely with the Headteacher to realise the vision of ensuring that every pupil succeeds in a caring, happy and inclusive learning community where there is a strong sense that every pupil is part of a large, close family.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious individual to be part of a relatively new school that is growing and thriving, and to join us on an exciting journey as we continually improve, innovate and develop. By September 2026, learners from Nursery to Year 4 will be in the school.

We are looking for a leader who will:
Support the Headteacher in shaping, implementing and reviewing the school's vision, ethos and strategic priorities
Take a leading role in delegated areas of school improvement planning, self-evaluation and Estyn readiness
Lead and model high-quality teaching and learning, including curriculum development and assessment practice
Provide strong operational leadership, ensuring systems and arrangements are implemented consistently
Manage and develop staff, including aspects of performance management and professional learning
Promote a culture where pupils feel safe, happy and supported, with ambition and inclusion at the heart of all practice
Use data effectively to monitor progress and ensure sustainable improvement
Support and promote the development of the Welsh language

We would welcome applications from candidates who have:
Qualified Teacher Status and a strong record of successful senior leadership
Recent successful experience as a Deputy Headteacher, Assistant Headteacher or member of a Senior Leadership Team
A clear understanding of shared leadership, accountability and governance
A solid understanding of the ALN Code and the role of the ALNCo
Strong knowledge of the Curriculum for Wales and the Estyn Inspection Framework
The ability to inspire, motivate and lead others through integrity, collaboration and high expectations
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to partnership working

Friendly and enthusiastic learners
Supportive and committed staff team
Active and ambitious Governing Body
Strong links with the local community and partner schools
Opportunity to make a real difference in children's lives
Opportunity to be part of an exciting journey as Wrexham's newest Welsh-medium school

About Us
Amdanom ni - Ysgol Llan-y-pwll

Ysgol gynradd cyfrwng Cymraeg yw Ysgol Llan-y-pwll, wedi'i lleoli yn ninas Wrecsam, yn ardal Rhosnesni a Borras. Agorwyd yr ysgol yn 2022 gyda chriw bach o ddisgyblion, ac fe symudodd i mewn i adeilad a oedd wedi'i foderneiddio ym Mawrth 2023. Erbyn hyn, mae 70 o ddisgyblion ar y gofrestr, yn cynnwys disgyblion o'r Dosbarth Meithrin hyd at Flwyddyn 3.

Bydd y niferoedd hyn yn cynyddu'n flynyddol wrth i ddosbarth ychwanegol gael ei ychwanegu bob blwyddyn, nes ein bod yn cynnig addysg i bawb hyd at Flwyddyn 6 ym Medi 2028. Felly, mae ein niferoedd yn cynyddu bob blwyddyn.

Ymfalchïwn yn ein hadroddiad Estyn diweddar yn dilyn yr adolygiad yn Hydref 2025, pan roddwyd cydnabyddiaeth fod Ysgol Llan-y-pwll yn gymuned ddysgu ofalgar, hapus a chynhwysol, lle mae ymdeimlad cryf bod pob disgybl yn aelod o deulu mawr, clos.

Ein gweledigaeth yw sicrhau bod Ysgol Llan-y-pwll yn ysgol ofalgar sy'n datblygu dysgwyr uchelgeisiol a galluog, mewn awyrgylch lle mae pawb yn hapus, yn ddiogel ac yn awyddus i ddysgu.

About Us -Ysgol Llan-y-pwll

Ysgol Llan-y-pwll is a Welsh-medium primary school located in the city of Wrexham, in the Rhosnesni and Borras area. The school opened in 2022 with a small group of pupils and moved into a modernised building in March 2023. At present, there are 70 pupils on the register, including pupils from Nursery up to Year 3.

These numbers will increase annually as an additional class is added each year, until we provide education for all pupils up to Year 6 in September 2028. Therefore, our numbers are increasing each year.

We are proud of our recent Estyn report following the inspection in October 2025, when it was recognised that Ysgol Llan-y-pwll is a caring, happy and inclusive learning community, where there is a strong sense that every pupil is a member of a large, close-knit family.

Our vision is to ensure that Ysgol Llan-y-pwll is a caring school that develops ambitious and capable learners, in an environment where everyone is happy, safe, and eager to learn.
