Family Engagement Officer - Education Welfare Service

Salary: Grade 6 - £28,142 - £31,022 pro rata
Grade 6 - £28,142.00 for 37 hours per week for 45.8 weeks per annum equating to £24,720.05 pro rata.Pembrokeshire County Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Family Engagement Officer to join the Education Welfare Service and play a key role in improving school attendance across targeted schools in the county.
This is a unique opportunity to be part of the School Attendance, Clear, Hold, Build project, funded through the ACP programme, delivering early intervention and preventative work with children, young people and families.
About the Role
The Family Engagement Officer will lead the operational delivery of the Family and Community Engagement (FaCE) Project within targeted schools, working closely with families, schools and multi‑agency partners to improve attendance and educational outcomes.
You will focus on engaging families who are hard to reach, disengaged or experiencing increased vulnerability, building trusted relationships and coordinating targeted, community‑based support. The role sits within the Education Welfare Service and works under the direction of the Education Welfare Service Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver the FaCE Project across targeted Pembrokeshire schools, supporting improved learner attendance and engagement.
- Build and maintain positive, trusting relationships with families to promote consistent school attendance.
- Work collaboratively with schools, Education Welfare colleagues and partner agencies to remove barriers to attendance.
- Signpost and support families to access relevant local services.
- Monitor, evaluate and report on project activity and outcomes, providing bespoke feedback to schools.
- Contribute to a consistent, preventative and relational approach to attendance improvement.
About You
You will have:
- Significant experience working directly with children, young people and families.

- Experience of delivering family focused group work or community based interventions.
- Strong communication skills, including report writing and partnership working.
- The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and adapt practice to different settings.
- A flexible, solution focused approach aligned to early intervention and prevention.
- A full driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential. A DBS check is required. Welsh language skills are desirable.
You will be highly organised, detail‑focused, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- A relevant qualification at NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
- Strong IT and keyboard skills with experience in software packages and database systems.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage workloads and meet deadlines under pressure.
- A collaborative team player.
