Lecturer - Foundations of Learning (Hair & Beauty specialism) (FTC)

Salary: £26,389 - £51,934 per annum dependent on experience

Cardiff and Vale College's Foundation Learning department deliver courses for young people with Additional Learning Needs and/or Disabilities and those at risk of becoming NEET. The department grows year on year and our curriculum for 2026/27 includes 31 courses for 400+ potential learners across 6 different sites. Our person centred and outcome driven courses are organised into the following areas.
  • Foundations of Independent Living
  • Foundations of Work
  • Foundations of Learning

All Foundation Learning courses use a mixture of traditional classroom-based lessons and project-based learning, to create a vibrant and engaging curriculum. Our team use their wider skill sets and work history to enhance the curriculum, ensuring that our students are skilled and employable people. We are passionate about teaching and learning and recognise that like our learners, each new staff member has had their own learning journey. For this reason, we pride ourselves on our CPD program focusing on what we teach and how we teach it and offer regular workshops and termly CPD focused on making teachers confident that they are making an impact in the classroom. The role has potential to grow depending on the needs of the department and the skill set of the applicant.

We are looking for tutors whose practice empowers learners to take ownership of their own learning journey; enabling them to self scaffold and manage positive behaviours that ensure that they meet their learning goals. The successful candidate will be responsible for subject planning, delivery and assessment, ensuring a positive and value-driven experience for Learners. This role will also involve course tutorship for one cohort of learners We are looking for passionate, committed teaching professionals who can consistently teach excellent, inspirational lessons.

The role will involve working at our City Centre and Colcot Road Campuses and working collaboratively with the wider staff team to ensure that learners enjoy their time in college, develop skills and pass their qualifications. Leaners on these courses may have not enjoyed school, have support needs, or be re-engaging in education; for this reason, the successful candidate will be warm and engaging, with a demonstratable understanding of inclusive practice.
