Work Placement Officer (Maternity Cover)

Cardiff and Vale College are seeking a proactive and organised Work Placement Officer to join our Careers team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in coordinating, developing and quality assuring high‑quality work placement opportunities that support learners' employability, progression and future success.

As Work Placement Officer, you will work closely with curriculum teams, learners and employers to ensure meaningful work experience opportunities are embedded within Learning Area Programmes. You will champion the value of work experience, support learners throughout the placement journey and develop strong, sustainable relationships with employers and external partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, develop and quality assure meaningful work placement opportunities for FE learners.
  • Work closely with Heads of Department and course teams to assess learners' work experience needs and plan placement schedules.
  • Promote the benefits of work experience to learners and employers, increasing learner engagement and participation.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with employers, schools and partner agencies.
  • Support learners through 1:1 meetings and group sessions, including in‑class delivery on work‑related education.
  • Ensure all placements meet Health & Safety, safeguarding and compliance requirements, including vetting and monitoring.
  • Undertake regular employer visits to monitor placements and learner wellbeing.
  • Complete all associated administrative and reporting duties accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Support learners through the DBS process, maintaining discretion and confidentiality at all times.
  • Contribute to wider Careers and departmental activity, including open evenings, enrolment and college events.
  • Work flexibly, including evenings and weekends, across College sites as required.

About You

You will be highly organised, adaptable and confident in working with a wide range of stakeholders.

You will have:

  • A good standard of education (minimum Level 4), including GCSE Maths and English or Welsh (or equivalent).
  • Excellent administrative, organisational and IT skills (particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Strong communication skills, with the confidence to present to groups of learners.
  • Experience of working with learners or young people in an education, training, or employability setting.
  • The ability to build effective internal and external relationships.
  • A proactive, flexible and customer‑focused approach.
  • A high level of attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.

An Advice and Guidance qualification and the ability to speak Welsh are desirable.

Please note this position is a Maternity Cover and will be Fixed-Term until 28th May 2027.
