Coleg Cambria are now recruiting for an Animal Technician to work at their Animal Centre based at their Northop site. As an Animal Technician at Coleg Cambria you will be responsible for caring for our animal collection, including weekends and public holidays periods. You will also provide technical support to our team of Animal Practitioners and Lecturers by ensuring learning materials, tools and equipment for students are maintained and prepared for practical sessions and the safe and effective operation of the Animal Centre. You will assist with class demonstrations and will support students working in practical situations. You will help to maintain Animal Centre health records, inventories and technical literature and liaise with the team to discuss animal welfare needs and equipment required.
This is a varied and interesting role where you will be responsible for keeping the Animal Centre tidy and safe at all times for our students and visitors, conducting tours, provide husbandry and routine veterinary care for all animals on the unit, providing food, water and maintaining the accomodation for a variety of animals, ordering stock and consumables.
For this position we are looking for candidates with expertise working with a wide range of animals such as reptiles, small mammals, rodents, invertebrates, amphibians, birds, aquatics, farm animals, ponies, dogs and poultry.
Essential Requirements
NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in a relevant subject area such as Animal Care.
Experience of working in a practical setting within a relevant Animal care environment
Knowledge and experience of caring for a broad range of animal species
Experience of maintaining stock, carrying out stock audits and liaising with various suppliers
Must have an awareness of health and safety
Proficient IT user - Google Drive/MS Office
Excellent communication and team working skills
Able to work safely with minimum supervision and manage and prioritise workload
Able to work weekends and public holidays
