New Welsh-medium All-age School in Builth Wells - Powys County Council

Welsh language skills are essential for this position

Powys County Council is driving forward an ambitious plan to open a new all-age Welsh-medium school in Builth Wells by September 2027, marking a significant step in expanding Welsh-medium education across Mid and South Powys. This development will create a seamless learning pathway from early years to secondary, increase access for families, and act as a catalyst for growing the Welsh language across the region.

The school's Temporary Governing Body are seeking to appoint an ambitious, dynamic and visionary Headteacher to lead the establishment of the school, and is committed to finding a headteacher who will:

• be an inspirational and innovative leader and an effective manager of change
• demonstrate a strong commitment to Welsh-medium education and culture
• focus on continuous improvement, driving quality and standards, and
motivating staff and pupils alike
• lead the strategic direction and development of the school
• work in partnership with the Council, the Temporary Governing Body, feeder primary schools and early years settings to actively promote and grow the school, increasing pupil numbers and securing its long-term sustainability

This is an exciting opportunity to work with the Council and the Temporary Governing Body to shape a brand-new educational provision in Powys, and an opportunity to play a key role in the further development of Welsh-medium education in Builth Wells and the surrounding area, shaping the school's direction as it grows over the coming years.

The successful candidate will be instrumental in creating a
strong foundation for Welsh-medium learning, promoting bilingual excellence and enriching the lives of pupils and the wider community.
We are looking for a dynamic and innovative individual with a proven track record of operating at a senior management level, with well-developed strategic and operational leadership, organisational and interpersonal skills. You will be committed to delivering high quality learning to all pupils and to working in partnership with pupils, staff, parents, governors and the community to provide an environment in
which staff and pupils are supported in achieving their full potential.

The school will open for pupils in Reception to Year 9 in September 2027, and additional year groups will be added as these pupils move through the school, until it eventually provides education for pupils up to Year 13. It will be located on Ysgol Calon Cymru's current campus in Builth Wells.

If you are passionate about developing high-quality Welsh-medium education, committed to fostering a thriving Welsh-speaking environment within an all-through school setting, and eager to inspire and support learners at every stage of their educational journey, please contact us.
