The Governing Body is seeking to appoint a HLTA for 28.5 hours per week, term time only.

About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to lead on speech and language and interventions across the school, while also providing high-quality classroom cover when required. This is a key role within our inclusive, child-centred school community, supporting pupils to develop confidence, communication skills and a love of learning.

The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, ALNCo, external specialists and families to deliver targeted programmes that make a measurable difference to pupil progress.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, plan and deliver speech, language and communication interventions
  • Work with identified pupils on individual and small-group programmes to support language development, social communication and early literacy.
  • Monitor, assess and record pupil progress, feeding back to teachers and the ALNCo.
  • Provide high-quality class cover across the school, delivering pre-planned lessons and maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Support pupils with ALN, following individual development plans (IDPs) and school policies.
  • Work collaboratively with staff, parents and external agencies to ensure consistent support for pupils.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school and uphold our values of respect, inclusion and ambition.
We are looking for someone who brings professionalism, initiative and genuine passion for supporting children's communication and learning. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
  • HLTA status (or willingness to work towards it).
  • Strong knowledge of speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) and experience delivering interventions.
  • A warm, nurturing approach with the ability to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to liaise with teachers, parents and specialists.
  • The ability to lead learning independently, manage behaviour positively and maintain high expectations.
  • Strong organisational skills, reliability and the ability to adapt quickly to the needs of the day.
  • A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and the wellbeing of every child.
