Teaching Assistant Level 2 - Penycae CP

Wrexham Council

Salary: £18,348 - £18,639

About the Role
30 hours per week, 39 weeks per year.

Temporary until 31/08/2027.

Ysgol Penycae is a successful, inclusive school, with a strong commitment to meeting the needs of all its children. We are looking for an enthusiastic teaching assistant to join our happy and dedicated team to work across the school. The post is for 30 hours per week, 8.45 - 3.15 with half an hour for lunch. The successful candidate would be an important part of our team, making a vital contribution to the service we provide to children.

In the morning you will be working as part of our team in the nursery class. We would expect candidates to have experience in this area. There will be some lunchtime supervision, and in the afternoon you will be working across years 3 to 6. This part of the post involves working under the direction of the additional learning needs co-ordinator (ALNCo) to deliver interventions either 1:1 or in a small group to support identified children. This will include strategies supporting children to develop language, maths and social skills as well as activities to support wellbeing. Training in using these strategies will be provided, but previous experience in this area would be a distinct advantage.

The successful candidate will have a positive attitude to children, a commitment to seeing all children make progress, good teamwork skills, a sense of humour, patience and resilience. Candidates should have a minimum of NVQ level 2 in supporting teaching and learning, or childcare, or equivalent, and grade C or above (5 in England) in both English and maths. Anyone without these minimum qualifications will not be considered.

Visits to the school prior to the closing date are welcome. Please contact the school if you wish to visit. We are committed to the highest standards of safeguarding and any appointment is subject to DBS clearance and satisfactory references.

An Enhanced DBS & EWC registration is required for this position.

The Council welcomes applications from suitably qualified candidates regardless of race, gender, disability, sexuality, religious belief or age.

The Council is committed to developing its bilingual workforce and welcomes applications from candidates who demonstrate their capability to work in both English and Welsh. Applications submitted in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than an application submitted in English.
