Ysgol Bro Dinefwr is seeking an ambitious, inspirational and committed Head of Humanities to lead our Humanities Area of Learning and Experience. This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding leader to contribute to the strategic direction of the school, lead a team of specialist staff and secure the highest standards of teaching, learning and achievement across Humanities.

As Head of Humanities, you will take responsibility and accountability for the day-to-day leadership, management and development of the AoLE, establishing a clear vision for curriculum development and raising standards. You will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team and line manage staff within the area, providing guidance, training, support and feedback to develop excellent practice.

You will:
  • Lead, manage and develop the Humanities Area of Learning and Experience, establishing a clear strategic direction and high expectations.
  • Lead curriculum development, reviewing provision and identifying opportunities to improve teaching, learning and attainment.
  • Monitor standards and learner progress, using evidence and data to inform improvement priorities.
  • Model outstanding classroom practice and support colleagues in developing high-quality teaching and pedagogy.
  • Line manage and support the professional development of staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, reflection and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure that the school's values, vision and ethos are strongly represented and understood across the AoLE.
  • Contribute to whole-school strategic development and make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of Ysgol Bro Dinefwr.

The Head of Humanities has responsibility across the AoLE, including Religion, Values and Ethics; Business and Retail; Geography; History; Religious Studies; Sociology; Government and Politics; and Tourism. The postholder will also line manage the Religion, Values and Ethics Coordinator.

Method of Appointment

The selection process will assess candidates' ability to provide strategic leadership for Humanities and maintain high standards of teaching and learning. Specific details of the selection process will be confirmed with shortlisted candidates.
