Role Title: Welfare Officer

We currently have a vacancy for a welfare officer to be responsible as the first point of contact as part of the Safeguarding Team for safeguarding referrals, interventions and concerns, including liaising with appropriate external agencies. The welfare officer will also act as a source of support, advice and expertise on all welfare related matters.

Key Tasks:

To handle all day-to-day learner enquiries and issue appropriate information in response, including face to face, telephone, chat online and email enquiries.
To ensure all learners are supported with health and wellbeing issues.
To provide assistance and cover at any of the college sites.
To act as the first point of contact in conjunction with the Safeguarding Team, for all safeguarding referrals, interventions and concerns.
To liaise with and make referrals to appropriate external agencies and ensure all safeguarding concerns are dealt with promptly and appropriately.
Ensure all records are maintained and actions updated.
To act as a source of support, advice and expertise to learners and staff on all matters of wellbeing.
To sit on multi-agency Child Protection Strategic meetings, Child in Need meetings as and when required.
Carry out Learners Risk Assessments for individual learners who disclose a Criminal Conviction or Police Caution.
To attend external meetings on behalf of the college regarding learners who are supported by Youth Justice/Probation Service.
Maintain up-to-date relevant knowledge of key Safeguarding issues including Radicalisation and mental health.

Essential Requirements

Good standard of education (GCSE Grade C and above in literacy and numeracy)
Level 4 Advice and Guidance
Level 3 Safeguarding Qualification
Excellent personal resilience
