Trustee Role and Purpose

The success of Agored Cymru relies upon the personal commitment and active involvement of our Board of Trustees. As a charitable organisation, the Board of Trustees devolves authority for the governance of the organisation, including holding the ultimate authority for
the Awarding Body and Access Validating Agency licences

Their key purpose is to formulate strategic aims, ensure policies and practice are in keeping with the objects of Agored Cymru as legally constituted and aim for best practice in exercising its statutory and regulatory responsibilities and legal functions.

The Board of Trustees hold the Chief Executive and Senior Management Team to account for the organisation’s mission and vision, and implementation of the agreed Business Strategy.

Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to -
▪ Attendance and effective contributions at Board meetings
▪ Attendance and effective contributions within either the Finance & General Purposes Committee (FGPC) or the Quality Standards & Recognition Committee(QSRC)
▪ Scrutinise Board papers and provide appropriate feedback.
▪ Provide challenge and support to the CEO and Senior Management Team in the delivery of their objectives and the achievement of key performance indicators.
▪ Promote Equality, Diversity and Inclusion though positive action.
▪ Provide guidance on issues in which the Trustee has specific expertise.

The Trustee will be expected to perform all such additional duties as are reasonably
commensurate with the role.

The Board currently meets five times a year, with Trustees also attending the AGM. While the role is unremunerated, travel and out of pocket expenses are paid. We also provide an induction and on-going training and development to support trustees in their role
