Job Description

CORE PURPOSE
• To carry out professional duties of a teacher other than a Head teacher as described in the School Teacher’s Pay and Conditions document including those duties particularly assigned by the Head teacher.
• To assist the Head of Department in raising the profile of the subject with all pupils and to deliver the curriculum as appropriate.
• Deliver high quality and engaging learning to all pupils. Work effectively within a successful team to support the continued success in attainment.

• To lead effectively by example and to maintain the highest personal and professional standards.

GENERAL TEACHING DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• To maintain and build upon the standards achieved as a qualified teacher.
• To contribute to and promote a clear vision for an effective department and school.
• To adhere and promote departmental and school policy and ethos.
• To complete other reasonable tasks as directed by the Head teacher.

TEACHING AND LEARNING
• To manage pupil learning through effective teaching in accordance with the department’s schemes of work and policies.
• To develop lessons which meet the specific needs of individual pupils and contribute to the development of resources syllabuses and schemes of work in your curriculum area.
• To ensure continuity, progression and cohesiveness in all teaching.
• To use a variety of methods and approaches (including differentiation) to match curricular objectives and the range of pupil needs, and ensure equal opportunity for all pupils.
• Regular setting and marking of homework, according to school policy.
• To work with ALN staff and support staff.
• To use positive management of behaviour in an environment of mutual respect which allows pupils to feel safe and secure, and promotes their self-esteem.

MONITORING, ASSESSMENT, RECORDING, REPORTING and ACCOUNTABILITY
• To be responsible for the assessment, recording and reporting for the pupils in your charge (this includes LNF)
• To assess pupils’ work as required by internal procedures and external bodies.
• To contribute towards the implementation of IEPs, IBPSs particularly the planning and recording of appropriate actions and outcomes related to set targets.
• To assess pupils’ work systematically.
• To develop pupils’ ability to self and peer assess.
• To follow the school’s marking, assessment and recording policy. To keep clear accessible records.
• Keep an accurate register of pupils for each lesson.
• Communicate effectively with parents/carers through Parents’/Carers’ Evenings and on an individual basis where appropriate.

SUBJECT KNOWLEDGE
• To have a thorough and up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the National Curriculum POS, level descriptors and specifications for examination courses within the teaching area(s).
• To keep up-to-date with research and developments in your subject area and to attend relevant in-service training both within and beyond school.



PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS AND DEVELOPMENTS
• To be a role model to pupils through your personal presentation and professional conduct.
• To arrive in class, on or before the start of the lesson, and to begin and end lessons on time.
• To co-operate with the Head teacher in all matters concerning Health & Safety and specifically to take reasonable care of your own Health & Safety, and that of any other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work.
• To be familiar with the school and departmental handbooks and support all the school policies.
• To establish effective working relationships with professional colleagues.
• To attend department and contractual school meetings.
• To make an appropriate contribution to life outside the classroom.
• To liaise effectively with Parents/Carers and with other agencies with the responsibility for pupils’ education and welfare where appropriate.
• To take responsibility for your professional development by engaging actively in the Performance Management Process.
• Make a contribution to whole school INSET and planning activities.

FORM TUTOR
• To take registers fully and accurately
• To support pupils through target setting processes as applied to both academic and behavioural aspects.
• To have a detailed knowledge of tutees.
• To monitor attendance
• To check on a daily basis that correct school uniform is worn and to take action if necessary.
