The Governing Bodies of Cenarth and Llechryd Primary Schools are seeking an energetic and motivated candidate to lead the schools during this exciting era in education. This is a great opportunity to further develop the relationship that has already been forged between the two schools, for the benefit of the learners.

Cenarth Primary School is an area school situated in a rural location that provides education for learners aged 3-11. The school welcome learners from neighbouring locations in Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire. Welsh is the main language of the school. It is a happy, homely and welcoming school with ample opportunities provided to develop learners' bilingualism through lessons and various activities, such as Siarter Iaith, Eco Schools, Christmas concerts, competing in the eisteddfod, etc. Much building and renovation work has recently been undertaken, and there is ample room for open air activities where learners enjoy learning on site.

Llechryd Primary School is situated in the middle of the village, and it serves the local children and surrounding areas. Llechryd Primary School is a happy and caring school with a strong ethos of inclusivity which permeates throughout. The school's vision has been successfully adopted and shared where learners are encouraged to develop to the best of their ability. School staff collaborate well in providing a broad and stimulating curriculum and offer exciting learning experiences to all. The school has gained the platinum Eco School award, the Siarter Iaith silver award, and are currently working towards the gold award. Llechryd Primary School is proud of its successful Estyn inspection reports.

Cenarth and Llechryd Primary Schools currently work well together in several areas, i.e. developing Curriculum for Wales (CfW), monitoring the teaching and learning, sharing ideas and resources. Effective work has already taken place in committing to new ways of teaching. To this end, the Governing Bodies wish to appoint a committed and innovative individual to promote the present high standards, and further build on the life, work and reputation of both schools.

The Governing Bodies of Cenarth and Llechryd Primary Schools are keen to ensure that both schools continue to thrive and take advantage of future opportunities. Their aim is to appoint an experienced individual with excellent leadership and management qualities who will:
  • build on the healthy partnership that already exists and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders
  • provide excellent leadership that draws on and reinforces the expertise of other staff
  • promote the wellbeing of learners and staff
  • encourage and support all learners to work towards the four purposes of the CfW
  • promote high standards, progress and attainment for all
  • lead on the national transformation agendas
  • promote staff development in innovative teaching and learning
  • encourage involvement of parents/carers and the community of both schools
  • fully promote inclusion

The successful candidate will have:
  • a clear vision for developing the partnership that inspires staff, parents/carers and learners alike
  • high expectations of themselves and others within the location of both schools and the wider communities of Cenarth and Llechryd
  • ability to provide a caring, respectful and inclusive environment for all
  • a clear understanding and commitment to developing effective learning practices
  • strong communication, inter-personal, management and organisational skills
  • an understanding of the importance of each learner's individual development to achieve their full potential
  • a sound knowledge and interest in current education developments and practices
  • a commitment in ensuring continuous professional development and team building
  • a strong commitment to continuing the links with the Governors, local schools and communities, Cylch Meithrin, Cylch Ti a Fi and Urdd Gobaith Cymru
  • the ability to encourage learners to fully embrace the Welsh language and its culture, encouraging parents/carers to support the Welsh language at home

This advert is for a full time Headteacher where the ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh and English is essential.

Applications will be considered from experienced teachers who do not currently hold the mandatory NPQH qualification but are willing to commit to achieving this within 2 years. A candidate appointed in this scenario would be as Acting Headteacher until the qualification is achieved.

Applicants who wish to visit both schools before applying are welcome to do so by contacting Mr Chris James (Chairperson of Cenarth Primary School's Governing Body) on 01239 710808 and Mrs Nicky Redmond (Chairperson of Llechryd Primary School's Governing Body) on 07766 672134 to arrange a visit.
