- Are you eager to play a key role in developing Welsh‑medium and bilingual education across our local authority?
The Role
Carmarthenshire County Council is seeking an excellent, inspirational, creative and dedicated practitioner to join our Welsh in Education Service on secondment.
The postholder will ensure effective language acquisition by supporting smooth transition from primary to Welsh‑medium secondary education, providing high‑quality immersion and/or language support (Gloywi Iaith) provision for specific groups of learners within secondary schools.
The individual will be expected to work closely with primary schools to identify pupils who may benefit from additional language support, and to continue providing this support as they transition into secondary education.
The teacher will teach in designated secondary schools across Carmarthenshire, as well as coordinate immersion/language support provision delivered internally by staff in other secondary schools.
We are looking for a practitioner with successful experience of teaching Welsh effectively in Key Stage 2 and/or Key Stage 3, a creative, inspiring and innovative teacher who can motivate learners, adapt teaching to meet their needs, and secure strong progress.
The postholder will also:
- Work closely with school leaders, teachers and teaching assistants
- Work in partnership with colleagues in immersion centres
- Ensure excellent and equitable secondary immersion and language improvement provision for all learners
A strong understanding of language‑acquisition methodology, Additional Learning Needs (ALN), neurodiversity and trauma‑informed approaches is essential for this role.
We expect high standards of teaching, a strong commitment to learner well-being, and the ability to work effectively as part of an ambitious and professional team.

- The opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of learners
- A supportive and collaborative working environment with a passionate and dedicated professional team
- Excellent professional development opportunities, including specialist training in immersion and language acquisition
- Valuable system‑level experience within a local authority
