The Play_inc Project - Volunteer Play Workers

Pembrokeshire County Council
We are looking to appoint Volunteer Play Workers for regular sessional work (minimum of 3 hours every two weeks).

The successful post holder(s) will assist in providing activities and play-based support for young people with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) in one of three regional youth clubs in Pembrokeshire. Based in Fishguard, Haverfordwest or Pembroke Dock, Volunteer Play Workers will assist in the delivery of dynamic, child-centred and play-based sessions in which the needs of each individual are met and positive relationships are developed.

As part of the Play_inc Project's aim to deliver outstanding ALN provisions for our young people, our Volunteer Play Workers will play a vital part in delivering our Saturday morning sessions in one of three sites throughout the county (Fishguard, Haverfordwest & Pembroke Dock)

From Autumn 2016, The Play_inc Project will be delivering three coordinated youth clubs, designed specifically for young people with Additional Learning Needs throughout the county. Our project will aim to deliver effective, engaging outcomes for all attendees, as well as providing a dynamic post for successful Volunteer Play Worker applicants who wish to further their experience of working with young people and develop their skills within an ALN setting.

Supporting our young people from the moment they arrive, Volunteer Play Workers will also deliver and offer guidance during the various activities and games available to our attendees. Support with communication, turn-taking, play and navigating around the sessions will all play a significant part in the role of a Volunteer Play Worker, not to mention a positive, child-centred approach to all our young people.

Volunteer Play Workers will be required arrive in time to set up each session - supported by the Early Help Inclusion Coordinator - and to be on hand to welcome our young people and their families upon arrival. Volunteer Play Workers will supervise the closure of every club session and ensure that the young people are safely reunited with their parents/carers at home time.

Successful applicants will be those that can show a clear commitment to developing their skills beyond the experiences and knowledge on offer during Saturday mornings and The Play_inc Project will support and develop all volunteers seeking to further their practice via a comprehensive platform of group training and one-to-one development. As well as a thorough induction, both specialist and optional sessions will be available, focussing on specific aspects of knowledge and support that all Volunteer Play Workers will benefit from.

Volunteer Play Workers will be required to be effective and proactive communicators, excellent and conscientious time keepers and able to ensure that their availability is consistent and managed alongside their line manager (EHIC).

We are seeking volunteers of all ages and levels of experience with the principle asset to any applicant being an ability to bring enthusiasm, commitment, compassion and communication to the fore. In doing so, The Play_inc Project will offer successful applicants an opportunity to play a part in the lives of exceptional young people and to shape the future of a dynamic new ALN scheme within Pembrokeshire.
