Headteacher / Acting Headteacher (Penygloddfa School)

Powys County Council
Headteacher / Acting Headteacher (Penygloddfa School)
Job description
Penygloddfa community primary school is situated on the north side of Newtown, a small market town in the north of the large rural county of Powys. The school is one of the largest schools that serves the town. Surrounded by the beautiful countryside of Mid-Wales the school is able to enjoy the benefits of such a rural location and play a vital part in the local town community.

The governors are seeking to appoint a highly-motivated and inspirational leader to continue the drive for high standards and lead the school's future development.

The children at Penygloddfa are educated in a friendly, family atmosphere. We believe that children should be excited and challenged by the work they do and aim to ensure that they are happy, confident and responsible during their time at the school. The language of the school is English with Welsh taught as a second language.

The ideal candidate will be an accomplished Headteacher, Deputy Head, school leader or education professional who can demonstrate excellent management, leadership and interpersonal skills.

The successful candidate will take up the position in September 2023 or January 2024.

We are looking for:
  • Highly-motivated individual, able to model, inspire and identify excellence in teaching and learning.
  • A strong leader who can take our school to the next level by working with governors, staff and parents.
  • An excellent communicator who is fully accountable to governors, the local authority and parents.
  • An inspirational team player who will foster strong relationships with the local authority and the wider community, and lead innovative education programmes.
  • A head who can demonstrate a good knowledge of the Welsh education system - some Welsh language skills are desirable, though not essential.

In return, we can offer you:
  • An excellent headteacher position which does not include a class teaching commitment
  • Happy, well-behaved children.
  • Forward thinking and dedicated staff
  • Active community links and a very strong PTA.
  • A fully supportive and hard-working governing body.

We welcome you to visit the school. To do so - or simply to have a discussion about the opportunity - please contact the school office on 01686 626715 or email us at: office@penygloddfa.powys.sch.uk

It is a requirement for new Headteachers in Wales to hold the NPQH qualification, unless they have been working as a headteacher prior to 2004. However, applicants awaiting assessment of the NPQH will be considered.
