Teacher - Language Immersion Unit

Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council

Salary: MPS2 - UPS3 £33,731 - £51,942 per annum

Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Helyg opened its doors to staff, pupils and parents on 3 September 2010. The school is located on an industrial estate between Nant-y-glo and Blaenau.

Ysgol Gymraeg Tredegar opened in November 2025 as a new satellite school linked to Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Helyg. The school is located on Chartists' Road, Tredegar.

We are seeking dedicated professionals who share our vision of providing high-quality Welsh-medium education, while fostering a strong, supportive and inclusive school community.

At Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Helyg and Ysgol Gymraeg Tredegar, we aim to provide opportunities - through the medium of Welsh - for our pupils to develop as responsible and confident individuals, enabling them to play a positive and constructive role in society.

Our mission statement, "Laying a strong foundation for a bright future", underpins every decision made in the school, with the aim of ensuring that our pupils receive the best possible education.

We aim to ensure that our pupils become fluent in both Welsh and English, so that they can make an active and meaningful contribution to the social and industrial life of our bilingual society.

Both schools offer a friendly and family-oriented environment, with dedicated staff who promote a positive, caring and supportive ethos.

The Headteacher and Governors wish to appoint an enthusiastic, creative and committed primary practitioner to work within the Language Immersion Unit at Ysgol Gymraeg Tredegar. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting pupils across Blaenau Gwent to develop their confidence and fluency in Welsh, ensuring full access to the curriculum through the medium of Welsh.

It should be noted that this provision is reviewed and considered annually in line with the needs of the schools and pupils.

As part of the recruitment process, thorough pre-employment screening will be undertaken, and the successful candidate will be required to complete a DBS check.

Applicants are required to submit an application form to the Headteacher, Miss J. Wardill, via the following email address: Ysgolbrohelyg@bgcbcschools.wales
