The Governing Body is seeking to appoint an inspirational and committed Deputy Head Teacher to join the leadership team at Newport High School. The generic job description of the Deputy Head Teacher is included but specific performance related areas for the successful candidate will include:

• Whole school self-evaluation and improvement planning
• Quality Assurance
• Whole school professional learning

The school is committed to developing a broad portfolio of responsibilities which will allow the successful candidate to hone their skills in all six of the key areas of headship to support their own future development.

The successful candidate will join a leadership team that is currently consistent of the Head Teacher, One Acting Deputy Head Teacher, four Assistant Head Teachers and a Business Manager. There is additionally at least one leadership seconded associate position in any school year. The successful candidate will be a key part of this team which works with staff, governors and the wider school community to secure school improvement; working with the relevant subcommittee chairs. They will lead the work of the leadership and self-evaluation subcommittee.

The Deputy Head Teacher will line manage, support and challenge numerous stakeholders through line management structures within the school and will lead on whole school performance management.

The Deputy Head Teacher will be responsible for line managing the Assistant Head Teacher that leads on T&L and Skills and will have strategic responsibility for KS2/KS3 transition across the school.

We are therefore looking for an outstanding teacher who has an excellent understanding of raising standards and a proven track record of improving both the quality of Teaching and Learning and the development of skills at whole secondary level and will be familiar with a wide range of effective leadership strategies. All senior staff at the school have significant responsibilities in the day-to-day management of the school from lunch and break time duties to a responsibility for elements of financial management and planning. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside the Head Teacher and the governing body to plan how resources are used most efficiently and effectively.
