Compensation: £19,453 - £23,572 / year
Description This is a term-time only post.

The post provides an exciting and challenging opportunity for a pro-active and innovative person as part of the learner support team in the college and will contribute to the team's mission of "working together to provide excellent learner support".

The learner support team are responsible for a range of functions including: learning support; guidance; work experience; counselling; financial support; accommodation; student liaison; learner voice; behaviour management; safeguarding; wellbeing; equality and diversity; charity co-ordination; volunteering; personal tutorial; absence management; induction.

This post will primarily provide financial and accommodation advice and support to learners and will support learners in engaging with student's union and other "learner voice" activities.

Key ResponsibilitiesThe Wellbeing Officer will be expected to:
  • Act as a point of contact for all learners, parents and staff in relation to learner wellbeing issues, to support and signpost where appropriate;
  • Work closely with the wider college Wellbeing Team, including Coordinators, Mentors, and Counsellors;
  • Administer the College's Financial Contingency Fund (FCF) and assist finance with completing annual funding return to Welsh Government;
  • Promote and advise learners, parents and staff on the range of relevant student finance available, covering Further Education (FCF, EMA, WGLG) and Higher Education (Student Loans, Bursaries etc);
  • Work in conjunction with the college Finance, Admissions, Registry, Academic Staff and Campus Offices to support the functions in 2.3 and 2.4;
  • Support learners with the application process for 2.3 and 2.4;
  • Work with learners to promote opportunities across all campuses to become involved in Student Union (SU) activities and support the SU where necessary. Organise, create and deliver SU elections electronically. Support the elected officers in order to help form a strong team;
  • Support the attendance of the SU at the annual NUS Wales Conference including overnight stay where necessary;
  • Work with tutors to identify class representatives for learner panels, focus groups and other
  • "learner voice" activities including annual college conferences and deliver relevant training;
  • Engage with all learners to promote active involvement in college activities, tutorials and workshops;
  • Promote events and activities through communications via social media channels, dedicated Google Classrooms, Chat Group etc;
  • Actively engage with, assist in the development of and contribute to relevant activities within the college tutorial programme;
  • Advise learners on available student accommodation when required;
  • Promote the college Cariad scheme, encouraging nominations for awards and supporting charity events to raise monies for the nominated college wide and campus based charities;
  • Promote the culture of Respect, Be Safe and Be Kind in all aspects of college life;
  • Support (when required), the work of the Wellbeing Team around safeguarding, Looked after Children, Carers and Young Carers;
  • Work across non-designated campuses, remotely and in person across Coleg Ceredigion and Coleg Sir Gar when applicable;
  • Establish and maintain good relationships with internal and external stakeholders and organisations to assist in offering an excellent support network for learners;
  • Provide up to date and accurate weekly statistics on all aspects of the role as and when required;
  • Carry out any other duties as directed by the Principal/Chief Executive commensurate with the grade of the post at the initial place of work or other locations within the College.

Skills Knowledge and ExpertiseEssential Criteria:
  • Relevant qualification to Level 4
  • Relevant experience of working in a similar environment
  • Experience of supporting a wide range of learners
  • Experience of working in partnership with external agencies.
  • Good communicator with diplomacy and tact
  • Good interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Ability to work effectively with learners
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Good presentational skills
  • Competence in the use of a range of IT systems and packages
Welsh Language Requirements:
  • Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 2
  • Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level 2
