Ysgol Y Deri is a local authority day special school maintained by the Vale of Glamorgan
local authority. Currently there are over 475 pupils on roll aged between 3 and 19 years across 5 sites in the county. All pupils have additional learning needs, such as learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties, autistic spectrum conditions and social, emotional and mental health difficulties.

We are looking to recruit an experienced, dynamic teacher to join our amazing Primary team. We believe school should be unmissable and audacious.

We are looking for an innovative teacher to lead the development of the Health and Wellbeing curriculum within the Primary section of the school and contribute to the whole school wellbeing priorities. You must be able to transform challenging curriculum content into engaging and life affirming experiences for our youngest learners. Someone who recognises the importance of both high support and high challenge.

Our dedicated team provides a broad, lively, and stimulating curriculum for our pupils, we focus on inspiring change within our pupils to ensure their successful future. You will be required to work with other colleagues coordinating elements of this wide area of the curriculum. This will be alongside being an outstanding classroom practitioner, working with our youngest, most complex pupils.

About the role
Pay Details: Teachers Mainscale + TLR 2 +SEN allowance (£2583) + TLR (£5444)
Hours of Work / Weeks per year / Working Pattern: Full Time (Monday- Friday 8.30pm - 3.30pm)
Main Place of Work: Ysgol y Deri (Penarth site in the first instance)

This is an amazing opportunity for an early years / primary trained top-quality teacher who already has the skills to adapt their teaching, someone who is prepared and excited to take on something completely different. The successful candidate will be given the support but also freedom to design an engaging Health and Wellbeing curriculum with the wider team of Primary and Secondary AoLE leads and in line with the Curriculum for Wales (see additional information)

A background in additional learning needs is essential as well as a strong understanding of the curriculum, how it might be adapted and how it can be developed to enthuse all learners.

The successful candidate will have excellent classroom practice, including use of ICT, high expectations of pupil engagement and achievements and a willingness to work as part of a dedicated team that is committed to providing the very best opportunities for all of our pupils. We are looking for teachers experienced in working with early years and / or experience of working with young learners with a diagnosis of autism.

We offer specialist training and development from our therapy teams in areas such as communication, emotional regulation, attachment & trauma and Positive Behaviour Support.

You will be required to have an enhanced and barred DBS for both Child and Adult and be registered with EWC.
