Purpose of the Job
• To actively assist the Headteacher in developing a culture of learning throughout the school, improving learning and outcomes and celebrating success.

• To actively assist the Headteacher in creating an atmosphere and the necessary structures in which pupils and staff feel valued and have high expectations of themselves and each other.

• To take responsibility for the strategic direction of Provision across the school, including leading teaching and learning, Additional Learning Needs, learning experiences, the learning environment, aspects of care, support and guidance and attendance.

Responsibilities:

a) Undertaking responsibilities as a member of the Leadership Team of the school
b) The leadership, day-to-day management and high standards of the Learning and Teaching in the school along with the setting, development and implementation of policies, plans, targets, practices and procedures related to the system within the context of the vision, ethos and aims of the school.
c) Strategic direction and development of the school
d) To effectively appraise, performance manage, line manage and deploy teaching and support staff as appropriate across the school.
e) The leadership, day-to-day management and high standards of continuing professional development of staff. To lead, develop and enhance the practice of all teachers and LSAs across the school at all stages of their career, evaluating the quality of teaching and securing and sustaining excellent teaching in all curriculum areas.

About you
Education, training, professional development and Qualifications

• Degree/or equivalent qualification appropriate to primary age range
• Further recent qualifications related to education/management and pertinent to the whole primary range e.g. MLL, MA Ed.
• An appropriate record of continued professional development
• A balanced programme of relevant courses undertaken in the last three years

Experience

• A lead practitioner who is able to demonstrate and provide a good role model to pupils and staff
• Demonstrates experience in teaching across the primary phase
• Experience in teaching all subjects right across the ability range including high potential learners and ALN
• Whole school curriculum planning linked to the development of skills
• Proven track record of effective Senior Management
• Experience of using self-evaluation to review performance and raise standards of learning and teaching
• Evidence of contribution to the SDP
• The ability to identify and manage change that raises standards

Skills and Abilities

• Prioritise and lead staff development and training
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; the ability to lead, manage and inspire other who are directly involved with the school community
• Have a clear understanding of the school review and self-evaluation process
• Lead staff in the use of data and assessment to raise standards in learning and teaching
• Manage pupil behaviour effectively using positive behaviour strategies
• Be able to take a lead role in strategic planning and work with the GB to develop an informed view of the school in its community
• An awareness of the expectations of the wider community in relation to the school
• Support and encourage strong home/school links
• Have a clear understanding of the Performance Management process
• Excellent ICT skills
