About us
Our school is a Community Primary School with a Nursery attached. We have a strong and supportive Board of Governors, which includes representatives of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, parents, the local community and staff. We set very high standards across the school and offer a broad range of experiences and opportunities for our pupils.

Our school is fortunate to be located in a lovely rural setting, surrounded by farm land, countryside and the coast. We serve the local village and MOD base at St Athan.

The whole school community work in partnership to provide a bright, welcoming and stimulating learning environment to inspire and support our curriculum.

About the role
Pay Details: SCP 8 (Level 3)

Hours of Work / Weeks per year / Working Pattern: 30 Hours per week / 39 weeks per year/ daily during term time (subject to change depending on the needs of the school)

Main Place of Work: St Athan Primary School

Description:
•To support individuals and groups of pupils to enable access to learning, this could include those requiring detailed and specialist knowledge in specific areas or personal care.
•To work under the guidance of teaching and/ or the school leadership team and within an agreed system of supervision contributing to the teachers planning cycle to ensure all pupils have equal access to learning.

About you
The LSA should be appropriately qualified:

  • Very good numeracy/literacy skills.

  • NVQ 3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualification

  • Appropriate first aid training.


The LSA should have knowledge and understanding of:

  • how to support children in literacy and numeracy;

  • How to support ALN pupils ( ASD/ ADHD )

  • how children learn and how to motivate them.

  • the principles of child development and the learning process

  • principles of positive behaviour management

  • safeguarding processes


The LSA will be able to:

  • work with an individual or a group;

  • reinforce teaching points during teacher input;

  • model acceptable behaviour;

  • Use specialist (curricular/learning) skills/training/experience to support pupils.

  • Assist with the development and implementation of IDPs.

  • Attend to pupils' personal needs, and implement related personal programmes, including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid, toileting, feeding and mobility.
The LSA will:

  • Show a calm approach

  • Maintain confidentiality

  • Have an understanding nature

  • Be enthusiastic, energetic and hard working

  • Have the ability to adapt to a variety of situations

  • Demonstrate initiative in the class room

  • Be passionate about seeing children progress in all aspects of their life
