Practical Skills Supervisor - Plastering, Term Time

Grwp Llandrillo Menai

Salary: £30,575 - £32,622 per annum, dependent on qualifications and experience

The Construction Department at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor is a forward-thinking department offering courses across a range of construction disciplines. Teaching and learning take place with access to industry-standard equipment and within modern facilities. Within the department, we have two sites; Hafan (Pwllheli) and CaMDA (Dolgellau), with the Construction provision based at CaMDA (Dolgellau).

We are seeking a permanent full-time member of staff to join the College's Construction Department; and we are looking to employ an enthusiastic and dedicated individual with experience in the Construction field, specifically in the area of Plastering.

The department offers a wide range of provision including full-time and part-time courses, apprenticeships and the 14-16 curriculum. We currently have a strong team of Construction lecturers in the fields of plastering, bricklaying, carpentry, plumbing and general construction, alongside practical skills supervisory staff in areas including plumbing, bricklaying and carpentry, and staff members who work specifically with the apprenticeship provision. We are looking for a member of staff who will complement this and contribute to the ongoing development of the department.

The role of the practical skills supervisor will involve working under the guidance of the lecturer in providing high-quality bilingual education to learners across a range of qualifications and levels, including Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3, on full-time, part-time and apprenticeship programmes. The role will include planning and delivering practical sessions in the workshop, carrying out site visits and assessing work on-site when required, and providing ongoing support to ensure that every learner is given the best opportunity to succeed.

A strong link with the 14-16 provision is essential, with an expectation for the successful candidate to contribute to high-quality education provision from 14-16 through to further education and work-based learning. A proactive role is also expected in supporting the lecturer and the team to develop the Plastering courses and provision, ensuring that learners are at the heart of everything we do.

The successful candidate will be expected to deliver high standards of teaching and learning in a workshop and support the lecturer to provide ongoing support, advice and guidance that promotes learner success. We would like to work with you to develop your professional skills in order to offer the best possible experience for learners and to help move the department forward.

Typically, a Full time Practical Skills Supervisor will be timetabled for up to 1000 hours in each academic year for direct contact with learners and with a minimum of 500 hours per annum of class supervision in a practical workshop setting.

Key expectations of the role:
  • Teaching practical sessions to a high standard in order to create effective learning opportunities and to enable all learners to achieve to the best of their ability.
  • Ensuring a professional and safe environment in the workshop that reflects what is expected on a workplace site.
  • Maintaining high standards of the provision and the support given to learners.
  • Ensuring that the Group's policies and procedures are followed.
  • Supporting learners to succeed in order to achieve or exceed their targets, by appropriately challenging and stretching learners.
